Luke 2:21-40

Father, thank You for Jesus and the life I have in Him!

****************************************************************************

“Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, You now dismiss Your servant in peace.  For my eyes have seen Your salvation, which You have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to Your people Israel … This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.  And a sword will pierce your own soul too.” (v 29-32, 34-35 NIV)

These words poured forth from Your servant, Simeon, as he held in his own arms the Savior of the entire world.  Could anyone imagine such a wondrous point of realization, Lord?  After waiting for so many years, You granted the longing of Simeon’s heart, and then he felt he could die in peace.

Simeon saw in and spoke of several things he could “see” in Jesus: (1) You sent Him as a gift to this world and especially to those who choose to follow You; (2) You ordained Him to be our Messiah, the One chosen to save us from sin; and (3) You shined a light through His life on earth that exposed sin, that led the way to life, and that radiated with the warmth of Your love.

.  An encounter with Jesus would bring each person to a crossroad, with the choice to either love Him or hate Him.  You leave no room for middle ground or for playing in the gray.  You call us to be black or white, hot or cold (Revelation 3:15-16).

Father, thank You for Your Gift.  Thank You for my Messiah.  Thank You for Your Light.  Thank You for Jesus.  Keep on making me just like Him … until the Day that I get to see Him face to face, as Simeon did so long ago.  Amen.
