Acts 4

Father, make a difference in my heart that’s daily evident in my life.

“Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (v. 12)

You alone, Jesus, are the Source and Author of my salvation.  You alone are worthy to be the Lord of my life.  You deserve my total allegiance — no other gods before You.

Highlight to me, Lord, where I have allowed “other gods” to take Your rightful place in my heart, mind, soul, and life.  Help me to see this sin of idolatry and to rid myself of it.  Cleanse me, Lord.  Set my primary affections and attention on YOU.  May I run to YOU first for what I need, even if that’s simply by saying to You, “I need …” and then waiting for YOUR supply, YOUR solution, YOUR answer.

All too often, my first reaction to a situation, a trial, a heartache, a struggle, a conflict is to think of which person to contact and talk with about it all.  Oh, You’ve helped me get better at crying out to You; yet, I desire to do so even more … so that my FIRST cry is YOUR name … so that “I lay my requests before You and wait in eager expectation” (Ps 5:3 NIV).

Make my desires and focus like those expressed by the psalmist, as You make me just like You:

“When I tried to understand all this, it was oppressive to me till I entered the sanctuary of God; then I understood … When my heart was grieved and my spirit embittered, I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You.

Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand.

You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.

Whom have I in heaven but You?  And earth has nothing I desire besides You.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but

But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;

I will tell of all Your deeds.” (Ps 73:21-28 NIV) Amen.
