The radio alarm sounds
And out of bed I rise
When the light come on
The mirror is before my eyes
Through the day I often gaze
At my reflection in the glass
More concerned with me
Than with the others who pass
Lord, take away my mirror
Give me a window in its place
Show me the look of need
That haunts another’s face
Give me a window to see through
That’s on an unlatched door
Then when I see the hurt
I can help them more and more
Walking along beside me
Is one with silent pain
Living just next door
A man who lives in vain
Do I turn my selfish eyes
To others all around
Or will I turn my head
Ignoring the weeping sound
Lord, take away my mirror
Give me a window in its place
Show me the look of need
That haunts another’s face
Give me a window to see through
That’s on an unlatched door
Then when I see the hurt
I can help them more and more
